Samantha Davenport joined Team CED as our Startups Storyteller! In this role, she will tell the stories of Alaska’s entrepreneurs and the larger ecosystem supporting them. Samantha is the lead contributor to the Alaska Startups website and will manage the associated social media channels. The opportunity to have someone with her talent showcasing entrepreneurs in Alaska incredibly valuable, and is a service we’re proud to offer our state.
Feedback is my third favorite four-letter word. By that, I mean the word gift. If you have been to one of my recent workshops, you would have heard me outline the expectation that feedback is a gift. Now, I must admit I absolutely stole this expectation (with permission) from the design thinking geniuses at DesignThinking.bg. It has become a staple guiding principle for my workshops and my life in general.
It’s easy to overlook or just not know about our entrepreneurial ecosystem. Maybe it’s because we’re spread out across great distances, or maybe it’s because the louder narrative about the economy lately has been a pessimistic one. And yet, there exists a vibrant community of people committed to making a difference for our state, whether through launching a company or providing resources to entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs.
Not long ago, if you spoke to me about a “sprint,” I would have assumed we were talking about your fitness routine. Not so anymore, as entrepreneurial sprints have taken off (“sprinted,” if you will?) in Alaska. Between OTIS, Growspace, the University of Alaska President’s Innovation Challenge, and now VOLT49, innovative Alaskans seem to have an appetite for sprinting.
