Upstart Alpha: SWAMC Region Cohort

A Startup Accelerator for Southwest Alaska Entrepreneurs

Transforming ideas into startups

Upstart Alpha is a university-based program launched in 2019 designed to provide entrepreneurs with the resources and connections to grow an idea into a business. You will learn how to test your idea, find your best customers, meet investors, and more! Upstart Alpha's accelerator is delivered in two phases. This is designed to strengthen each cohort through mutual accountability, deepen interactions, and ensure entrepreneurs are roughly at the same stage of exploration and execution.

This cohort is specifically for entrepreneurs living and starting businesses in the SWAMC region. You must also be early stage — pre-revenue is great, and just having an idea is perfectly fine.

Program benefits and Requirements

  • Quickly build upon your idea using a variety of tested startup tools

  • Structured, phased progression on your startup, with accountability (from both peers and instructors)

  • Gain access to a valuable network of peers, mentors, and experts

  • All sessions are delivered virtually, and attendance is mandatory.

  • Participants are expected to show up engaged, learn by doing, and support their fellow cohort members.

Who Can Apply

This cohort is open exclusively to entrepreneurs based in the SWAMC region — including the Aleutians East Borough, Aleutians West Census Area, Bristol Bay Borough, Dillingham Census Area, Kodiak Island Borough, and Lake & Peninsula Borough. Shareholders of the Aleut and Koniag Corporations and their spouses and dependents may be eligible for a stipend upon completion of the program (at least 10 of the 11 sessions).
